Weekend

We had a busy weekend with two cookouts to break in the playground but Mom was too busy to find the camera. Madeline is still doing great, sleeping like a champ and smiling and cooing at us all. I love being a big brother and can't wait til she can catch the balls I throw at her :)

My mom's cousin Mike came in town from NY for a wedding. We picked him and his buddy Howie up at the airport and took them to lunch. I am still talking about "my friends Mike and Howie." They were lots of fun!

Benefits of Girls Night

Jack enjoyed the KKs I brought home last night! Have you seen the mini's? They are just the right size for kiddos!

Girls Night Out

Now I know you are thinking "wow, wild and crazy- going to Krispy Kreme." But I was reaffirmed tonight how important girl time is. We took Emily Starritt out for her bday to a great Asian restaurant- Five Star- downtown and then hit KK for some HOT NOW yumminess. We laughed so much and enjoyed a great meal without someone pulling at our shirt, throwing food or spilling their drink. Refreshing, rejuvenating and should be done much more often! Can I get an "amen?"

PLAYGROUND!!!!

It was a big day at the Councill house! Jack and I have been playground shopping for a few weeks now. We even debated buying a kit at HD and having Clay put it together. But seeing how it is the busiest time of year for him, we knew it wouldn't happen anytime soon and we wanted it asap. Jack needs an outlet especially now that I have to give 1/2 my time to Madeline. So a really nice man came put this in our backyard today:

Jack woke up from his nap and it was finished and he ran outside so fast. Later in the day, the mulch came and surprisingly, the driver backed the truck all the way into our backyard and dumped the mulch right on the playground! Now all we have to do is rake it out. Jack was mesmerized by the truck and the mulch. I was having MAJOR flashbacks of being on playground sites watching the mulch come off the trucks.
The tire swing

Happy boy on the slide. If you look closely at his legs, you will notice the remnants of his artwork with a black sharpie. This is after two baths and some nail polish remover. I guess it will just wear off. Too bad I can't say the same for the couch!

We are so excited to have our new playground! We had all the neighbors over this evening and didn't come inside til after 8. Lots of fun! Come visit!

Madeline's Blessing

We went to Franklin this weekend for Madeline's blessing. It was a beautiful day and she did great just looking up at her Daddy the whole time. A very sweet experience!
The best family pic of a million we took:
My sweet Madeline holding her great-grandmother Madeline's cross

Fun on the Farm

We got to Grandma and Grandpa's house Saturday evening and everyone was waiting for us to do a belated egg hunt. Jack found lots of eggs with Jordan's help. After dinner we roasted marshmellows for smores. Jack was mesmerized by the fire and loved roasting the marshmellows.

Sampling his work...

After Madeline's blessing and a yummy lunch, the boys were itching to play. Jack loved being with his cousins, Greyson (2) and Win (4). He followed everything Win did. Amazingly, I got them all to look at the camera once.
And then Win did this and Jack and Greyson followed. So fun!
Clay snapped this picture of the boys on the swing.
And they're off. Win organized "races" through the garden. Clay's great-grandmother planted a 4 acre boxwood garden on the farm many years ago. I am sure it would make her happy to see her great-great grandsons running and playing throughout it. It makes for a great game of hide and seek!

Two months!

Madeline turned 2 months yesterday. We went to dr for her check-up and shots. It is so hard to see your baby cry like that- it was the saddest she has been since she got here! Thankfully though, she is very healthy. 24 inches (90%) and 12 lbs (75%) and cooed and smiled at the dr and did all her tricks. We celebrated by going shopping cause that's what girls do.
Now that we have the good reflux meds, Madeline is a very happy baby. She will smile and coo back at you when you talk to her. It is like having a conversation- she is already a chatter!
She will not take a bottle or a pacifier unlike her brother. We are trying all sorts of brands with each but so far no luck. It is quite frustrating. But I think she is going to be a thumb sucker b/c this girl cannot get enough of her hands. Here she is trying to get them. She succeeds every now and then but it is really funny to watch!
Madeline is on a roll when it comes to sleeping. Last night she slept from 8pm-5am. Most nights she can go 7-9 hours without a feeding. Jack didn't do this until he was 7 months old so I am still in disbelief. She sleeps quite a bit during the day too. I am not complaining. I also know that nothing lasts forever and this could change tomorrow.

We are so blessed with our healthy baby girl and love having her in our family!

Happy Kids

Look at this smiling cutie! I love her in her Baby Legs- little leg warmers for babes! Madeline likes them too!
Chillin in her crib under the letters than Aunt Shannon made for her in her newly painted pink room thanks to her Daddy! My friend DeEtte Shaw made this bedding for Jack and we didn't find out what we were having so I knew I could use it for a boy or girl. We painted his room green. And now Madeline's is pink and it looks just as wonderful. I was so excited to get it all out again and still love it just as much! Thanks again DeEtte!!
Madeline was having tummy time and Jack wanted to join
Again, just wanted to be close to her
Finding his Easter basket- silly face
Sort of serious face- don't mind the pjs- not sure what is going on here

photo shoot

We tried to do a photo shoot with the three grandkids- probably going to get harder and harder to get a good one of all three but here is the best of the cuties!

And my sweet two:

And my fave - Jack and Maeve chasing bubbles- I love his hand on her back

Egg Hunt

Maeve hosted her second annual Easter Egg Hunt while we were in Knoxville. Jack got a few eggs but was more interested in the playground. Here are the kids at the start:

Uncle Ryan and Madeline
Mimi and Madeline- she slept the whole time. Mimi got her a basket like the rest of the kids and I am sure she will be filling it up next year!

Trip to Knoxville

We packed up the minivan and hit the road to Knoxvegas for a week- just me and the kids. The drive was actually not bad. Madeline only woke up once each way and Jack ate lots of snacks and watched Madagascar 2 about 4 times. He was a happy camper! I am glad to have such good travelers b/c we love going places!

We were so excited to be at Mimi and Goose's (my mom and dad). This was Goose's first spring home in many years as he is usually on a baseball field this time of year. But with his new gig as a consultant, evaluating young pitchers for the Rangers, we are gonna get to see a lot more of him and are so happy!

Goose and I took Jack to Kids Workshop at HD while Mom watched Madeline. It was a fun time for the three of us. Jack made a birdhouse and was very pleased with himself.

We had cookout one night and Jack devoured a few hot dogs. I don't eat hot dogs so I have never made them for him but apparently I should. I think he ate three.

Jack and Maeve had fun playing together. Many adventures and some fights but that is to be expected.

Making funny faces

Madeline started smiling when we were in Ktown. Here she is smiling at Goose. She loved him! He could get her talking and smiling alot!

The proud grandparents

Meeting Ellis

Betsy came in town during the week too so our sweet ones could meet for the first time! So fun!My mom and Liz (Betsy's mom) hosted a Sip and See for all their friends to meet Ellis and Madeline. It was a night of lots of ladies ooing and ahing over the babies. Ellis and Madeline at their first meeting- Madeline is not being friendly. I think she is making fun of Ellis b/c he has a dress on.

Ellis decides he will cry too- probably b/c his mom made him wear a dress!

The next day I met Betsy for lunch and the kids were a little happier to see each other

We put them together in the car. They both cried the whole time. Thankfully we were just going to Long's and not Florida!
